Milwaukee does have a city life after all

I have been working in downtown Milwaukee since last December and the cold weather had always kept me cooped up indoors. I would take a cab to the downtown Marriott and cross the street to get to work and then back again. Even getting something to eat was just a matter of walking into the adjacent mall and only sometimes would I muster the courage to walk through the snow and slush to get to near by restaurants and then whimper my way back to the hotel.

This was a regular routine for 5 months straight! Why you ask... well because it's so damn cold in Milwaukee. How many times have you felt your nostrils freeze up? Well maybe you have - but you see I'm from the warm south, so this ain't my cup of tea.

May brings with it warmth and a new outlook to the city. For the first time this week I ventured further into the city and walked around a bit. In fact I discovered Riverwalk just next door.

Riverwalk is a narrow walkway running along the river through downtown. I won't go through lengths to describe what the Riverwalk is all about because you can read about it here... but the bottom line is that it was really nice to feel the fresh breeze along the river. I'm beginning to like the city for the first time and have already started making plans for what I'll do after work during the summer months... maybe I'll just walk around and explore, after all the city and the river is lined with fine restaurants. I guess I'll write more about that when I get a chance to try them out.
